Washington DC Supports Marijuana Legalization

“District voters, like most Americans, think it is time for a new, more sensible approach to marijuana policy. People should not be subjected to life-altering criminal penalties simply for using a substance that is objectively less harmful than alcohol” said Steve Fox, national policy director for the Marijuana Policy Project. “Harsh criminal penalties should be reserved for serious criminals, and our law enforcement resources should be reserved for addressing serious crimes.”

Also 64% of DC residents would like growing up to three marijuana plants and possession of marijuana for those 21 and older to be legalized.

67% of residents believed police should spend money on real crimes, such as rape, murder, etc.

54% consider that drug use “should be treated as public health issue”.

69% of white residents, 55% of Afro-Americans, 41% among Hispanic support lower penalties for the possession of marijuana.
