While in other states, where medical marijuana is legalized, patients can cultivate cannabis by themselves or just buy it from the state-licensed businesses, Maryland patients must obtain medical marijuana strictly from approved research hospitals. Two expected organizations have already declared they refused from participation in this program.
There is some doubtfulness concerning the date medical marijuana patients will be able to use this program.
There is the commission, which will issue licenses for medical marijuana growing and decide which patients to take part in the program basing on health condition.
Medical marijuana patients who won`t participate in authorized medical marijuana program will break a law using cannabis even for medical purposes.
Mike Liszewski, Policy Director with Americans for Safe Access, the country’s largest medical marijuana advocacy organization, said “However, because HB1101 fails to establish a well-regulated system that allows patients to cultivate their medicine or safely obtain it from a licensed dispensary, Maryland cannot be considered the 19th medical marijuana state.”
