Italian MS Patients Can Use Sativex (Marijuana Based Medicine)

This medicine could be prescribed for treatment of spasticity in Multiple Sclerosis. But only patients who have not responded to other medications can use Sativex.

The Italian authorities reimbursed the medicine as Class H (hospital dispensed).

So Sativex is the first marijuana-based medicine for the treatment of spasticity in Italy. It includes two active components: THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) extracted from cannabis Sativa.

Sativex is available in hospital pharmacies within Multiple Sclerosis Centers since July.

According to Giancarlo Comi, Professor of Neurology Universita Vita-Salute San Raffaele, patients suffering from such Multiple Sclerosis symptoms as sleep disturbance, muscle stiffness, painful spasms, etc would be able to reduce them by using Sativex.

According to another Professor of Neurology, Carlo Pozzilli, Sativex has no side effects and does not build up a tolerance.

75% of Multiple Sclerosis patients in Italy suffer from spasticity and Sativex can improve their quality of life.
Today, it is possible to buy Sativex in 21 countries around the world.
